ChrysArte Pakistan Residency

A Residency for International Artists in Pakistan

The ChrysArte Pakistan Residency is a self-funded residency programme for international artists seeking dedicated time for their artistic practice while experiencing Pakistan through its places, people, art and culture.

Each session takes place in a different location in Pakistan. The changing location allows the residency to introduce artists to different cultural, geographical and artistic contexts across the country.

The programme has no prescribed artistic theme and does not require artists to produce work specifically about Pakistan.

The Residency

The residency brings together international artists in a shared environment where they can continue their own practice while engaging with the local artistic and cultural context.

Depending on the location and session, the programme may include visits to galleries, museums, artist studios, cultural sites and other places of local interest, as well as opportunities to meet Pakistani artists and members of the creative community.

The programme is intentionally flexible. Artists may use their time to continue existing work, develop new ideas, conduct research, experiment or simply dedicate uninterrupted time to their practice.

Experience Pakistan

The residency offers an opportunity to experience Pakistan through living and working within the country rather than simply passing through as a visitor.

Each location brings a different context.

The programme may take place in a major cultural centre, a historic city, a rural setting or the northern regions of Pakistan. The location for each session will be selected according to the character of the residency and announced with the open call.

Artistic Practice

The residency is open to international artists working across disciplines and approaches.

Artists are not required to change their practice or produce work in response to the location.

The environment is there to be encountered, observed and experienced. How an artist responds to it — through their work, research, conversations or simply through being present — remains entirely their choice.

There is no mandatory final artwork or prescribed project.

Presentation
Where appropriate to the individual session, an open studio, artist talk or presentation of the residents' practices.
